International Student Health Cover
Health Insurance for International Students (OSHC)
As an international student in Australia, it is mandatory to maintain Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) throughout the duration of your stay. This requirement is set by the Department of Home Affairs for all student visa holders, except for those from countries with reciprocal healthcare agreements with Australia.
You can arrange your OSHC through your education provider or choose an approved OSHC provider yourself and handle the payment directly. Regardless of how it’s purchased, it’s crucial to maintain continuous coverage for your entire time in Australia.
Your OSHC must be in place before departing for Australia, ensuring you’re covered from the moment you arrive. This insurance includes coverage for certain medical services. Refer to your specific policy for full details.
Who Provides OSHC?
There are currently five approved insurers offering Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) in Australia. You can purchase your OSHC through your academic institution or directly from one of these providers:
- BUPA Australia
- nib OSHC
- Allianz Global Assistance
- Australian Health Management (AHM)
- Medibank Private
International students must arrange their OSHC before leaving their home country. This ensures you’re covered for medical services from the moment you arrive in Australia.
